We have noticed the amount of disguised weapons being carried by teenagers is on the increase. Some of which you would not consider to be harmful. Rapid Action Initiated Defence (RAID) System has designed a force Continuum training program to deal with such situations

Introduction to Weapons Defence
When we say weapons we mean anything that can be used to cause harm or injure. Some of the weapons we consider can be said to form part of an individuals personal protection equipment, however they are classed as illegal in the eyes of the law. The types of weapons we teach you to defend yourself against fall into one of the following categories; a. Edged weapons, b. Striking weapons, c. Projectile weapons and d. Disguised weapons. ;
Edged Weapons
Definition - ‘Any implement made, intended or adapted that has a sharp cutting edge or edges, that when forcibly brought into violent contact with a person will lacerate, gash, tear and penetrate the flesh’. Explanation - Weapons and spikes have been an integral part of man’s weaponry from early times, and although other forms of weaponry have been continuously developed into highly sophisticated killing implements, the knife or blade has remained an effective weapon to this day. It is also one of the easiest to make yourself and one of the easiest weapons to conceal. Any utility knife can be used to fight with when necessary and it is probably the case that most knife wounds come from everyday knives found around the home and taken out of their surroundings or used in the heat of the moment during a domestic disturbance. Striking Weapons
Definition - ‘Any object which is made, intended or adapted so that when forcibly brought into violent contact with a person, it will inflict physiological trauma, bruising and/or bone fractures’. Explanation - The simplest form of striking weapon is the primitive club. Over the centuries such weapons have often been made more lethal by the introduction of sharp edges and sharpened points. Every culture has developed striking weapons of some type, the most devastating of which are flails or flexible weapons as they offer greater speed and power for the user’s effort when compared to a truncheon or knuckleduster. Practically everything we come into contact with in our daily lives could be used as a striking weapon, but some of the things made can be particularly awesome in their effect. The idea of adding something to the hand, a ‘hand load’, to make a blow more effective dates back to at least Roman times, when gladiators would fight to the death using steel covered fists. The Knuckle Duster has traditionally been made from brass, steel or aluminium, however there are now plastics and other synthetic materials being used, making them more difficult to detect but no less lethal. Hand loads can be easily made or something can just be picked up in the heat of an argument and used by someone to grip in the hand and increase the power of a punch. Clubs and coshes either made, adapted or intended were probably the first purpose made weapons. They would have been the unwanted sticks or bones that first came to hand when primitive man was required to defend himself. Just like primitive man, today’s man or woman is just as likely to pick up an object close to hand to use as weapon. It might be a traffic cone, a workman’s tool or perhaps a piece of furniture. ;
Projectile Weapons
Definition - ‘Any mechanism that is made, intended or adapted that has a capability, by releasing stored energy, of projecting a missile under force towards a person for the sole propose of inflicting injury.’ Explanation - Weapons thrown by hand are a primitive demonstration of aggression. They all originate from sticks and stones, which eventually developed into spears and other simple hand-held weapons made specifically for throwing at an enemy or for hunting. Although simple in concept, throwing weapons have one thing in common; they all require a high degree of skill and strength to make them efficient. However, once this skill has been acquired, a hand thrown projectile can give the user a massive tactical and psychological advantage. The power and effective range of this type of weapon can be considerably enhanced by the use of a number of simple devices such as slingshots, which concentrate the power and accuracy of the discharged projectile. Projectile weapons can also give the assailant anonymity by allowing an attack on a person to be made from a distance, perhaps out of sight from the victim and witnesses. Think of a sniper using a rifle or someone throwing a bottle from the back of a crowd using the cover of others.
Disguised Weapons
Definition - ‘Any weapon that has been made or adapted to deceive, to be unidentifiable, masked or camouflaged in order to give the outward appearance of being an innocuous and innocent object’. Explanation - Any weapon that is disguised in some way is generally illegal to possess in a public place and you can generally assume it is more than capable of doing serious harm to you or others. They are usually made out of everyday items and carried on the body or close to hand so that they can be readily used if required. Almost anything can be used to disguise a weapon.
